Worldwide Association of Notable Alumni Recognizes Michael S. Bowen

Michael S. Bowen is a Science Teacher and Department Chair at Holly Springs High School, part of the Wake County Public School System. With over 15 years of college and high school level teaching experience, he taught college-level Biomedical Science, and teaches high school Forensic Science, Physical Science, Honors Earth Science, and Academic Earth Science. He also serves as the Earth and Environmental Science Professional Leaning Team (PLT) Leader for the school. A dynamic and passionate educator, Michael integrates collaboration, critical thinking and reading, literacy and critical writing into all courses he teaches and his broad background helps enable his students to understand the big picture.

In addition to his teaching, Michael served as an Army Officer and held a Top Secret/Secret Compartmentalized Information (SCI) security clearance. His last duty assignment was as the Deputy Chief of Staff for the US Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command (Airborne), where he helped manage the staff and run a 13,000-person Airborne unit that operates across 39 states and Puerto Rico. He was also an Adjunct Faculty Member for US Army courses with the Department of Distance Learning (ILE/CGSC) Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

After earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology and History, Michael went on to complete a Master of Science in Biology from Wake Forest University. He also graduated from both U.S. Army Engineer Officer Basic and Advanced courses, Combined Arms and Services Staff, School, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and numerous other military courses.  Michael is a life member of Sigma Xi Science and Engineering Honor Society, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Society of American Military Engineers, Army Engineer Association, NC Military History Society, NC National Guard Association, and the Association of the United States Army. In his 28(+) year career, he has served on Active Duty, in the National Guard, and in the U.S. Army Reserve. 

A Resident of Holly Springs, North Carolina, Michael served for 12 years as Member and Chairman of the Board of Adjustments in Garner, North Carolina and in other capacities as a tireless, passionate community volunteer.  In his spare time, Michael enjoys reading, writing, movies, hanging out with friends and family, camping and traveling.
