Worldwide Association of Notable Alumni Recognizes Edwina V. Davis

Edwina V. Davis, recently retired from the District of Columbia Department of Health (DOH). With more than 20 years of experience, she is a highly seasoned program manager, health educator, and public health official. For the DOH, she was responsible for overseeing the allocation of millions of federal dollars into programs to improve maternal and infant health outcomes for residents of the District. She also was the lead in the Asthma Coalition, composed of doctors, nurses, administrators and senior managers in non-profit organization, which was instrumental in the District developing legislation for children to carry and self-administered asthma medication while in school.

Edwina has also developed and implemented Worksite Wellness Program as well as teaching health education programs for patients of a Medicaid Managed Care Organization.

Passionate about her field and improving the wellbeing of her fellow citizens, Edwina is working to create an evidence-based model for moms, babies and toddlers regarding healthy touch and its beneficial health effects. She aims to implement the model into early intervention programs, where it can help make a difference in the lives of families, as well as establish a 501c3 non-profit organization to bring healing touch to at-risk population.

Edwina received her master's degree from American University (AU).  She also worked as an Adjunct Professor at AU and developed and taught an experiential class on Techniques in Stress Reduction.  She received a Certificate of Completion from Georgetown University’s Early Childhood Intervention licensed massage therapist, and is Master’s Level Certified Health Education Specialist. With her experience and educational backgound, Edwina has a holistic as well as policy-minded understanding of health and the human body.

Outside of driving public healthcare policy and administration, Edwina enjoys salsa dancing and hydro-spinning, and serves as a volunteer on the hospitality committee of her Church.
