Dr. Kenneth Boren is the President of the Boren Family Foundation, a foundation established in 1996 that supports the extensive philanthropic activities of Dr. Boren and his family. Notably among its endeavors is the foundation’s support of education opportunities for underprivileged students, the Arizona Kidney Foundation and various renal programs. Since inception, the foundation has donated over $800,000.00 these and other charities.

Also the Founding Partner of the Southwest Kidney Institute, a state of the art treatment center that provides complete care for all kidney needs under one roof, including early diagnosis, timely intervention and close medical management. Dr. Boren developed the business plan for the institute, and developed the dialysis program, clinical research program, concept of vascular access program, CKD program and home dialysis program.

After earning a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Arizona State University in 1967, Dr. Boren went on to complete his medical studies from the Indiana University School of Medicine. After a long and fruitful medical career he decided to continue his studies, completing the Executive MBA program at Arizona State University in 2014. Prior to branching out into the Boren family Foundation and Southwest Kidney Institute, Dr. Boren served as the Medical Director and co-founder of Southwest Kidney Divata Dialysis, and as a Founding Partner of Arizona Nephrology Associates. He served as a board member of the Lutheran Physician and Hospital Organization and the Arizona Kidney Foundation, and has been a board member of the local Boy Scouts troop since 1990. He was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, a Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology and a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology.

Dr. Boren resides in Mesa, Arizona. Since obtaining his MBA, he has recognized the importance of a “team approach” to managing patients with difficult chronic diseases and believes that the future of the care of these patients is tied into this team approach. He is excited to explore a maximum use of outpatient techniques to prevent hospitalization and the use of social media to strengthen the bonds of the education and caring for these patients and their families.
