Worldwide Association of Notable Alumni Recognizes V. James Onalfo
V. James Onalfo is the Deputy Commissioner and Chief Information Officer of the New York Police Department. With over 40 years of experience in technology, security and information systems, he is a foremost expert on cyber security worldwide and has been highly recognized and decorated for his work in government security. Having been with the NYPD for over 13 years, James came to the post after a 30-year career in information technology. He specializes in integration, cloud computing, cyber defense, disaster recovery and program management, and has created and implemented numerous innovations for the NYPD.
In 2013, James was nominated Man of the Year by the NYPD. Computer World magazine named him a “Top 5 CIO” of 2008, and he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Port Authority Police for being a Top 25 CIO in government technology.
James earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management from the University of Connecticut School of Business in 1962, and has maintained an impressive ability to evolve with his industry ever since. A master of enterprise architecture, he was handpicked and drawn out of his retirement to completely rebuild, restructure and develop the cyber and information technology system in use by the NYPD today.
A member of the Society of Information Management, James is regularly invited to speak at large conferences on topics of the cyber security, mobility and innovation. He continues to consult for the NYPD, and also for other government agencies at home and abroad, including in Connecticut, Chicago and the Philippines.
