Worldwide Association of Notable Alumni Recognizes Sigma Mostafa, PhD
Dr. Sigma Mostafa is Vice-President of Process Development at KBI Biopharma, and brings over 20 years of experience in the Biopharmaceuticals field. She oversees about 30 staff members consisting of chemical engineers and biochemists with advanced degrees. Her team develops over 50 therapeutic protein processes per year for a wide range of clients, and is responsible for the upstream and downstream development, technology transfer, and manufacturing support . Sigma has always had an interest in development of medicine. She always wanted to find cures but also wanted to be able to use her knowledge of mathematics and engineering. She has developed over 100 recombinant protein medicines that have gone on to clinical trials.
Sigma earned her PhD in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University in 2000. Her expertise span the areas of process development, clinical and commercial production, technology transfer, scale-up/scale-down, process characterization and validation, and bulk drug manufacture. She has developed processes for monoclonal antibodies, highly glycosylated proteins, PEGylated proteins, cytokines, enzymes, and vaccine candidates. She has extensive experience developing processes for biosimilars. She has authored CMC sections for IND and BLA filings for many molecules.
With her busy schedule she still has time to support both the public and national TV and radio. She also does conference presentations for Cell Culture Engineering, ISPE, and IBC. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, gardening and reading. She resides in Cary, North Carolina.
