Dr. R. Dean Boyd is an agricultural and animal science expert with more than 3 decades of experience in the food and nutrition industry. As the Technical Director for the Hanor Company, a leading integrated pork product supplier and producer, he oversees the technical logistics of the company’s operations, from breeding stock and pork processing to nutrient management, animal care and environmental stewardship services.  He oversees the integration of science into practice.

He also serves as the Technical Director for Triumph Foods, an organization founded in 2003 by a group of the largest independent pork producers across the United States, under a mission to create a pork processing operation capable of recognizing the benefits of an integrated business model. With more than 2800 workers today, the organization processes over 6 million pigs to supply some of the highest quality food distributors in North America and the world. Between his roles at Triumph and Hanor, he manages nutrition for 95,000 sows and 2.45 million pigs annually.

After earning a bachelor of Science in Animal Nutrition from Colorado State University, Dr. Boyd went on to receive his PhD from the University of Nebraska. He joined the faculty in the Animal Science department and Division of Nutrition at Cornell University, where he gained an international reputation for his pioneering work in regulating nutrient use by growing pigs. His expertise and forward thinking have made him an expert in how to make an impact in agriculture, and he is a highly sought after advisor in both the private and educational sectors, internationally.

Dr. Boyd is an adjunct professor in animal nutrition at North Carolina State and Iowa State Universities. His research has led to a better understanding of energy and amino acid nutrition, ingredient mitigation of disease stress on growth, and the profound lifetime effects of low weaning age. His team proved that seasonal infertility can be alleviated by specific amounts of essential fatty acids and his growth assay for calibrating ingredient net energy facilitated wide adoption of the net energy system in pigs.  Dr. Boyd has published 338 scientific papers in scholarly journals and conference papers.

Outside of his professional endeavors, he enjoys restoring antique tractors, volunteering  funds and time for local and global humanitarian efforts with his Mormon faith.
