Worldwide Association of Notable Alumni Recognizes Mark L. Walker
Mark L. Walker is the Director of Accounting for Ahold USA, the domestic branch of Dutch grocery powerhouse behind several of America’s top grocery retail brands including Stop & Shop, Giant Food, Giant Food Stores, Martin’s Food Markets and Peapod. With nearly 20 years of experience in accounting and financial management for major retailers, Mark is an expert in budgeting, internal controls and auditing, and has been in his current position for 14 years. He is adept at leadership management, and oversees electronic fund transfers, account reconciliation and budgeting for the division, which brings in $27 billion in sales annually.
After earning a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Mark went on to complete a Master of Business Administration from West Virginia University. Launching his career as the Manager of Inventory, Banking and Payroll at Foot Locker, he quickly made his impact on the company, being responsible for a cost savings of $12 million over a 3-year period.
In addition to overseeing the financial wellbeing of Ahold, Mark serves as an Adjunct Professor at Elizabethtown College, where he lectures on Accounting and Finance. He is a member of the National Black MBA Association, and devotes his time and resources to various charitable organizations in his local Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area. Mark is also a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., where he currently serves as his local chapter's Keeper of Records and Seal.
