Worldwide Association of Notable Alumni Recognizes Mario J. Marchese
An honored Lifetime Member of the Worldwide Association of Notable Alumni, Mario J. Marchese is the Global Director of Renewable Power at Hatch, based in Lima, Peru. Having worked in various roles at Hatch, Mario is well versed in the best practices of the business. He has worked in Latin America, North America, Canada and international markets in cross-functional roles to help Hatch grow and expand the industry exponentially. Mario’s professional experience includes consulting on mining operations and projects, steel product manufacturing, and energy projects. At Hatch, he is responsible for managing the Renewable Energy business unit on a global basis. This includes hydropower, wind power and solar power areas of development, with resources in America, South Africa, and Australia, and Asia.
Within my responsibilities is the development of the business unit to ensure its continuous growth in new geographical areas and with current Customers. In an environment where more and more energy is being demanded, the need to increase participation of renewable energy is a challenge to innovation, investors, and operators in the market, and as Hatch we can contribute to implement this ideas, turning them into profitable business at the same time.
His expertise is focused in International Directorship of Hydro, Solar, Wind and Project Execution Divisions of work and personnel. One of his most notable accomplishments includes the responsibilities for implementing the largest wind farm in Chile and developing the engineering studies for four hydropower projects totaling more than $1.5 billion (USD) of capital investment. Before joining Hatch, he held the role of Business Development Director for Fluor Corporation and Commercial Manager for Cintac, a CAP Division that specialized in manufactured steel products. Able to wear many hats, he has also been an adjunct Professor at the Universidad del Desarrollo in Chile and lecturer in several occasions in universities in Peru, where he taught Industrial Engineering.
Today, Mario is a renowned expert speaker on Renewable Energy and Mining. Mario's future goals and vision include working with like-minded professionals on cross-cultural multidisciplinary organizational teams that combine the mining and renewable energy industries. He is currently pioneering a new strategy for the future of the two disciplines united.
Mario holds a Masters Degree in Engineering, focused in Mineral Processing from McGill University, and a B.S. in Chemical and Environmental Engineering from the University Santa Maria in Chile. He speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, some French and Italian.
Since his academics, he has embarked on a highly successful career that has not gone unnoticed. Mario’s numerous awards include:
· 1988: Awarded best graduated Chemical Engineer in his class by the Chilean Engineers Association
· 1992: Distinguished in the Dean´s list upon graduation from his Master´s at McGill University
· 1997: Selected as part of the Marketing Associates program while at Fluor Daniel engineering firm, a program where 6 individuals were selected on a global basis to go through a training program at Fluor headquarters in Irvine, California, for a period of one year
· 1998: appointed Business Development Director for Latin America at Fluor Daniel, based out of Santiago, Chile
· 2001: appointed as Director for the Consulting to Management group at Hatch, for Latinamerica, based in Santiago, Chile
· 2007: appointed as General Manager of two SN Power subsidiaries in Chile, fully owned companies of SN Power Norway (now Statkraft)
· 2010: rejoined Hatch as Director for Latin America for the Energy business unit
· 2011: appointed Global Director Renewable Power for Hatch, which includes hydropower, solar, and wind energy
· 2013: additionally, appointed as Country Manager for Hatch operations in Peru
When Mario is not climbing the ladder and learning new technologies in his field, he enjoys the great outdoors, and likes to camp, hike and fish. He currently resides in Lima, Peru.
