Maria da Paz Tierno Lopes is a Partner at the law firm of Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira. With over 15 years of experience in corporate law, Maria is an expert in mergers and acquisitions, finance and transactions, project management, restructuring, and joint ventures. From her current position in Brazil Maria provides extensive advice and counsel to clients and her colleagues within the office, representing and conducting transactions across the Latin America region. Maria regularly represents clients in transactions that have included debt and equity financings, acquisitions, restructurings and privatizations. She also advises private equity firms and corporations in their expansion investment transactions throughout the Americas and inbound Europe.

After earning a Law Degree from the Universidade Lusíada de Lisboa, Maria went on to complete her Master of Laws in Banking, Corporate and Finance Law at Fordham University – School of Law in New York City. Before joining Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira, Maria spent 3 years as an Associate at the São Paulo and New York offices of White & Case. Her work has been published in publications like Latin Lawyer and Portuguese language newspapers.

Maria is known for her passion to help the Portuguese community, using her law degree to assist them in any way possible. She hopes to continue to progress in her current company and to make a huge impact in her area. She is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Portuguese Association and the International Bar Association. Maria resides in São Paulo, Brazil, where she enjoys reading, attending the cinema, sports and traveling in her spare time.
