Worldwide Association of Notable Alumni Recognizes Julie Hoffman, Ph.D.
Dr. Julie Hoffman is Dean of Teaching and Learning at Curtin University’s Centre for Aboriginal Studies. As an Associate Professor, Dr Hoffman lectures in a diverse field of sociology and anthropology. Her research interests include Indigenous health and culture, cross-cultural relations, intercultural education, community engagement, family and gender studies, and the multi-faceted impact of social class, publishing widely in a variety of professional and peer-reviewed journals. Due to such broad expertise, including in many related policy areas, she is a much-sought public speaker and post-graduate supervisor.
Dr. Hoffman has long-standing connections to Curtin University, with almost two decades of experience there, having previously worked for its School of Nursing and Midwifery as the Anthropologist in Health for many years, where she was a key partner in creating the curriculum for the Interprofessional Health Unit of Indigenous Cultures and Health. Working closely with Indigenous and non-Indigenous Academic Health Professionals within a range of intercultural projects has contributed to a national Australian Indigenous Health Curriculum framework. Indeed, Dr. Hoffman is a graduate of Curtin University, from which she earned a Bachelor, with Honors, in Anthropology and Sociology, as well as her Doctorate. Dr. Hoffman has been frequently recognized for her teaching excellence and administrative accomplishments in the form of grants won, two national Australian Office of Learning and Teaching awards amongst other awards received, and secured various nominations, including the 2010 Australian of the Year.
