Worldwide Association of Notable Alumni Recognizes Eric D. Poppleton

Posted by Worldwide Association of Notable Alumni on March 29th, 2016.

Eric D. Poppleton is widely known as the photographer of the iconic, “Straight Outta Compton” album cover for NWA. With almost 30 years under his belt as a photographer, he has recently began work as a Cinematographer and Photographer for his company, epop media, a still and video production company based in Los Angeles, California.

epop media has been producing content for a variety of industries from automotive, hospitality to action sports video productions. Eric and his team create still, panoramic imagery, and motion content for clients around the world. Some of their corporate video productions have included health and wellness companies and related events.

Much of Eric’s work experience at epop media has been a direct result of adrenaline junkies like himself. Some of his personal expeditions include a 1500-mile dirt bike motorcycle ride from Tecate to Cabo in Baja Mexico, trekking in Nepal up to Mount Everest Base Camp twice, and climbing the Matterhorn in Switzerland.

Due to the recent 2015 feature film about NWA, the hype about his iconic photo re-emerged. Eric was featured in an article titled, “The iconic photo behind 'Straight Outta Compton.’” http://www.cnn.com/2015/08/14/entertainment/straight-outta-compton-photograph/.

He was only 28 and fresh out of grad school at the time of the provocative photo. Since then, he has worked to stay current with the industry and adapt to his personal motivations.

Eric holds a Master’s in Fine Art in Photography from California Institute of the Arts in 1986. He always tries to stay current within the industry. Over the years he has strived to reinvent himself and continues to use his photography as a form of expression. His work takes him all over the world as he continues to use photography to express himself, his network, and his experience with new cultures and environments.

More recent work has had Eric hard at work on some challenging and often emotional video productions. One of these, a documentary that would help define Everest culture, ended in the unexpected and sudden loss of a life, Eric’s long time friend Tom. Another features Project Acheron, documenting four high performance athletes as they traverse through the intensely beautiful and wild terrain of Patagonia. Led by two former American Navy SEALs and a Patagonian tour guide, the team undergoes a physical and spiritual transformation as they are stripped from being in control. http://www.redbull.tv/videos/1408052931050-161705460/project-acheron/.

A powerful testament to juvenile murder in the United States, Lost for Life depicts the more than 2,500 individuals who are serving life-without-parole sentences for crimes they committed when they were 17 years old or younger. This powerful new documentary tells the stories of these individuals, their families and the families of the victims.

In addition to these recent film projects, Eric has continued his education in photography to push technical and creative boundaries for over 25 years now. His future goals include continuing to do imaging projects that are close to his soul, and raising his 10-year old daughter. Eric enjoys travel, cycling, hiking, and climbing in his spare time. He lives and works in Los Angeles. He continues to network professionally, always broadening his horizons.

Worldwide Association of Notable Alumni Member, Eric D. Poppleton, can be found on the Who's Who Directory where he is looking forward to networking with you.
