Worldwide Association of Notable Alumni Recognizes Dr. John Örtengren
Dr. John Ortengren is the President and CEO of AB Marknadsforskning, the company he founded in 1961. At the company’s inception, it specialized in market research, especially in corporate image studies, but the focus has gradually shifted to intellectual property research and consulting, Internet domain work and design patents.
John originally worked for Tessab Annonsbyrå AB in Sweden as a Director of Marketing and Research until it was sold in 1961 to Young & Rubicam, which is when he decided to strike out on his own. He was also the former Chairman of the Swedish Market Research Society, and for a ten-year period (1995-2004) was a member of the Nominating Committee of the Swedish Marketing Association. Since 1994 he has been the Chairman of the Swedish Society of Historical Certificates, a collector’s group engaged in reserving written business documents and old shares and bonds in particular. In 1992 he founded the National Association of Automotive Service of which organization he served as its Chairman from 1992-2014. He is also a long time spokesman of the Swedish Shareholders Association at AGMs of listed Swedish stock companies. He is a current Board member of the Rotary Global History Fellowship, as well as a member of the Stockholm Chapter of the International Advertising Association in 1963.
He holds a PhD in Mass Communication and Media Studies from Syracuse University, and wrote his dissertation on macroeconomics (the role of advertising expenditure) in the U.S. between World War I and World War II. The abstract of his 463-page dissertation is available on file at University Microfilms, Inc., Ann Arbor, Michigan (Order No. 62-1117). Over the years he has conducted over 500 research projects for Swedish as well as international clients. John is the author of 2 business management books and he has written some 400+ articles, mostly on marketing subjects, in the Scandinavian business press.
John was the recipient of the Swedish Shareholders Federation’s Highest Award in 2002, as well as being Paul Harris Fellow. He received a Citation for Meritorious Service in 2001 and a Distinguished Service Award in 2206, and the Royal Patriotic Society gave him a Gold Medal for Distinguished Achievement in 2009. He resides in Sollentuna, Sweden.
