Dr. John M. Richmond (FRACP 1980) is a self-employed Consultant Nephrologist and General Physician based in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. With over 32 years of experience, he served as a Consultant General Physician to Ballarat Health Services from 1983 to 2011 and continues as a Nephrologist at the hospital. Dr. Richmond is a clinician and clinical researcher, in addition to his technical expertise, and is recognized across Australia and internationally for his contributions to nephrology and healthcare. He is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Nephrology, Royal Australasian College Physicians and the Asian Pacific Society of Nephrology. Additionally, he has served as an Associate Professor of Medicine (Clinical) at Deakin University since 2011 and as an Examiner for the College of Physicians since 2010, being on the National Examiners Panel since 2014.

After completing his MBBS degree from Monash University, he undertook his residency and served as Registrar at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, before becoming Nephrology Registrar at The Royal Melbourne Hospital.  Studying abroad he was a research fellow at the University of Western Ontario, London, Canada before returning to Australia and becoming Locum Consultant Nephrologist at Flinders hospital in Adelaide. He then spent time as a Nephrologist at Prince Henry’s hospital in Melbourne, before settling and establishing his practice in Ballarat, Victoria.

A pillar of his community, Dr. Richmond has been a member of Rotary Club Ballarat Wes for 25 years.   Currently he is the International Director of the Rotary Club, a position that included a recent opportunity to be an observer on the Interplast Program which went to Suva, Fiji.  In 2013 he was awarded Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club.   In the coming years Dr. Richmond hopes to explore more teaching opportunities.
