Worldwide Association of Notable Alumni Recognizes Dr. Jeffrey R. Day

Dr. Jeffrey R. Day is a long-serving member of the Faculty of Education at the University of Hong Kong. Now semi-retired, he is the Programme Director of the Bachelor of Education Programme and an Associate Professor. Having joined the faculty in 1987, Dr. Day is an authority in education in the Division of Mathematics and Science Education with particular experience in health education, substance abuse prevention and  environmental education.

Dr. Day also offers consultation to the Hong Kong Education Bureau for Primary and Secondary Curriculum Development and the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority for the Liberal Studies HKDSE Examination. Advising on science education and the liberal studies curriculum, he is also called upon to provide expertise on learning management and resources development.

After earning his Bachelor of Science in Applied Biology (Hons.) And his PhD in plant pathology from the University of East Anglia,  he went on to complete a Postgraduate Certification in Education at the University of Cambridge, with distinction.

Dr. Day’s has written policy about alcohol use for Hong Kong SAR and South East Asia Region, as well as consulting for government bodies on local educational issues. He was a member of the Hong Kong Council for Academic Accreditation, and served on its Validation Panel for various courses across academic institutions.  He also spent two decades as a Moderator for Human Relationships and Environmental Studies modules of the Hong Kong Liberal Studies A-S level Examination and as a Community Drug Advisory Council Executive Committee Member & Convenor for the Preventive Education Working Group. His publications on health related behaviors and science education are wide-ranging, from medical journals such as the Asian Journal of Psychiatry, to government documents including The Action Committee Against Narcotics and The Health Services Research Committee, to academic restructuring and reform documents.

Dr. Day continues to reside in Hong Kong as he transitions into his retirement, and remains an active voice in the academic landscape. The impact of his teachings are increasingly felt as e-learning becomes a greater global resource.
