Brian Johnson is a Registered Forester and Founding Director of Margules Groome, a consultancy focusing on providing innovative solutions and service to the forestry, bio solutions, pulp and paper, wood products, and agriculture sectors. Offering comprehensive advisory services in finance, business development, market analysis and investments, the firm combines rigorous technical and practical expertise with a comprehensive understanding of the big picture. With over 30 years of experience in forestry, strategic development and management, Brian offers investment and project analysis, due diligence, business modeling and resource assessment to his clients, in addition to valuation and the financial, structural and technical aspects of major sales and acquisitions across New Zealand, Australia, Canada, North & South America, Europe and Asia.

After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry from the University of Canterbury, Brian went on to complete a Graduate Business Diploma in Finance from the University of Auckland Business School and a Forest Valuation qualification from Lincoln University. He is also a registered consultant with the New Zealand Institute of Forestry. He spent 7 years in various senior management roles in valuation, M&A and Strategic Planning for Tasman Forestry, before moving on to manage investment performance for Fletcher Challenge Forests. Prior to joining Margules Groome, Brian served as the Head of Office and Senior Principal of Poyry Management Consulting Ltd’s New Zealand branch.

Brian speaks regularly at various seminars and conferences on matters concerning the forestry and consulting industries. He credits his success to a thorough understanding of corporate decision making processes and governance in his industry and beyond, augmented by breadth of experience in capital budgeting, policy, process development and control. He resides in Auckland, New Zealand.
