Bristol Who’s Who Recognizes James T. D'Olimpio, MD, FACP, FAAHPM
Dr. James T. D'Olimpio, Director of Supportive and Palliative Care/Cancer Pain Service at North Shore University Hospital, has been dedicated to serving the medical community for over 37 years. With an extensive history in oncology research and treatment, Dr.D'Olimpio is triple Board Certified in the fields of Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology and Hospice/Palliative Medicine. Also Assistant Professor of Medicine at Hofstra/NorthShore-LIJ School of Medicine, his position is affiliated with the Monter Cancer Center of the North Shore-LIJ Health System.
Dr. D'Olimpio has always known he wanted to help others through practicing medicine. He completed his MD studies at Mt. Sanai’s Fifth Pathway Program, and was awarded his MD by the University of the State of New York, having begun medical school at the Autonomous University of Guadalajara in Mexico prior to finishing at Mt. Sanai. He received his Bachelors in Biology from Boston University. Through academics, research, and experience, he has accrued a vast amount of knowledge in his field. Prior to his current role, he was the Medical Director for the Hospice Care Network in Westbury from 1992-1999, helping to form the programs for Hospice and Palliative care, which are still helping patients today.
D'Olimpiohas given numerous lectures across the United States and internationally on topics ranging from pain and symptom management to supportive/palliative care. His research and work have not gone unnoticed. His expertise in the field has been widely recognized on CNN as a national expert in pain control, and on The Today Show as an expert in Pancreatic Cancer.
Dr. D’Olimpio’s work has been published in leading journals including the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Cancer Investigation and JAMA. He is on the Editorial Staff of The Journal of Pain and Symptom Management,The Journal of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and is the Associate Section Editor in Symptom Assessment Management for the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine/PC-FACS. Most recently, he was published in Newsday as one of Long Island’s top Oncologists last July.
Recognized in Marquis' Who's Who and Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors in America, he is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and The American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Among a plethora of other professional organizations, Dr. D’Olimpio is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
When he isn’t practicing medicine and teaching, D'Olimpioenjoys playing piano when time allows. His musical talent most recently has led him to a recent solo performance at Carnegie Hall. He says he attributes much of his success to his mentors, family, education and hard work. His passion to help others is easily recognized in his work and in his personal life.
