Biography
Fred Schaffner has been a Professor for thirty years, currently teaching in Puerto Rico to graduate and undergraduate students in the area of Environmental Science and Biology, earning recognition as Outstanding Professor for Research in 2017. Fred was prompted to this profession by a song from R&B singer Marvin Gaye which talked about Vietnam and ecology. This year, he published two books in Environmental Science and one in Microbiology. In the next three to five years Fred wants to promote more graduate education programs in Puerto Rico. His keys to success are his passion for science, believing in something, and hard work. Fred's biggest accomplishment is his students that have gone on to get their PhD's. In his spare time Fred likes to bird watch, scuba dive and fly. He also volunteers with Catholic Charities.
