Biography
Elizabeth Jane Sheffer-Winig received her Master's of Arts in History and Political Science at the College of Saint Rose in 1980. Ms. Sheffer-Winig was given the Full Bright Scholarship by the United States Government in 1989, where she studied in Egypt for three weeks and went to do public conferences about her discoveries. She completed her Bachelor's of Arts in History SUNY Potsdam in 1973. As an undergrad at SUNY Potsdam, she was one of the founding mothers of Gamma Sigma Sigma sorority. She spent most of her undergrad devoting time to her sorority through leadership and community service. As a child, Elizabeth Sheffer-Winig knew that her career path was in the Education profession. Elizabeth was enamored by history and learning even at a young age. She turned her dreams into a reality and turned her passion into a lifelong career. Elizabeth has been in the education profession for over 40 years. She began as a home economics teacher and worked her way up to her position now. She has been with the NYSUT since 1997. At NYSUT, Elizabeth is responsible for curriculum assessment and education development. Elizabeth is working with the NY State ELA exams and with the new implementation and grading of the Regents Exams. She is currently working on fact sheets for social studies, resources, changes in the new regents’ exams, arts in NY State, and is even creating a history lesson plan on Eleanor Roosevelt. Regardless of where the wind blows, Elizabeth sees her future in education with consulting.
