Biography
Diogo, a 1993 Stanford alumni, is the founder of DEFINING FUTURE OPTIONS. Diogo has over 20 years experience with water projects and his company acts as a strategic advisor to governments, regulators and businesses on the best practices in efficient and environmentally conscious use of water. At the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), he is a member of the team of specialists for the drafting of the International Standards for PPP's in water supply and sanitation. Diogo was also appointed as team leader for the drafting of the International Standards for PPP's in water management and flood control. At the Portuguese Ministry of Environment, Diogo is the President of the management and support team of the National Strategic Water and Sanitation Plan 2020 (PENSAAR 2020). Previously, Diogo worked at AdP - Águas de Portugal, SGPS, S.A., (1993 to 2008). Diogo was the executive director and member of the board of directors of AQUAPOR, S.A. from 2001 to 2015. He also was the chairman of ten AQUAPOR’s companies - (PPP's). Diogo started his company because of his entrepreneurial nature. When he left his last employment it was necessary to either start his own firm or become an employee at a new firm. Diogo attributes his success to his experience and deep knowledge of the subject and his ability to turn an inefficient, slow developing utility into an efficient, sustainable, and environmentally sound water delivery system. Diogo's goal is to keep his firm in this specialized area, advising governments, regulators and businesses in many different areas of the world. He also desires for his company to continue to gather more information and innovate ways to make water utilities more professional. Diogo says his greatest accomplishment was creating the national water company, Aquapor in 1997. He is very proud he was with the company since its inception. Diogo welcomes contact from all members.
