Biography
Stephen is a Senior Consultant at the CDC (Center for Disease Control). Previous to this role Stephen was the Associate Director for Environmental Microbiology for 9 years. The CDC keeps America safe from health, safety and security threats, both foreign and domestic. Whether diseases start at home or abroad, are chronic or acute, curable or preventable, human error or deliberate attack, CDC fights it and supports communities and citizens to prevent it. CDC is the nation’s health protection agency - saving lives, protecting people from health threats, and saving money through prevention. Stephen has published more than 325 articles, chapters, and books. He is an international and national recognized expert in the field of biosecurity and biodefense. He has consulted for the FBI, The Department of Homeland Security, and The Department of Health and Human Services. Stephen donates his time and money to the University of North Carolina in his spare time. He is also a member of the Board of the UNC Public Health Foundation. He credits his success to the education he received at University of North Carolina as well as his internal drive.
